Alunas da Etec de Monte Mor criam alternativa sustentável para o MDF
Protótipo é feito de chapa de fibra de madeira sustentável e valor acessível; a resina também ganhou formulação livre de compostos químicos
A baixa capacidade de plantio de agricultores familiares intrigou três alunas da Escola Técnica Estadual (Etec) de Monte Mor, em 2022, quando cursavam a segunda série do Ensino Médio Integrado ao Técnico em Administração. O resultado dessa observação – e a investigação decorrente dela – resultou no protótipo de um artefato que pode servir de alternativa ao MDF (sigla em inglês para chapa de fibra de madeira de média densidade). E com muitas vantagens: um produto atóxico, sustentável, inofensivo para o meio ambiente, e que ainda pode ser comercializado a um preço acessível.
Sarah Alves de Alcântara, Nataly Ferreira Novaes e Yasmin Victoria Pereira Morales deram início à pesquisa na disciplina de Química. No ano seguinte, em 2023, desenvolveram o projeto como trabalho de conclusão de curso (TCC). Nesses dois anos de estudo, perceberam que a fibra dessas árvores, prensadas a alta pressão com uma resina sintética, dão origem ao MDF, material utilizado na indústria moveleira e na construção civil.
Na proposta das estudantes, as fibras são substituídas por folhas secas e a resina – que leva na composição do MDF o formaldeído, uma substância tóxica – ganhou uma versão alternativa à base de amido, colágeno e água.
Foco social e ambiental
O projeto ‘MDFolhas: otimização do mdf tradicional para o atendimento do mercado atual’ surpreendeu a orientadora do TCC, Helena Cibele de Souza Silva, e o coorientador José Mauricio Lima da Silva. “Elas foram além do que a gente esperava”, elogia a professora. “Não imaginei que as alunas também formulariam uma nova resina”, conta.
“O MDF tem valor elevado e sem um tempo de vida útil que o justifique”, explica Sarah, uma das alunas. O custo era uma prioridade para as estudantes, acostumadas a ver famílias perderem seus móveis nas frequentes enchentes do Rio Tietê e seus afluentes, que banham Monte Mor, Capivari e Hortolândia – domicílios das três alunas. Mobiliar novamente a casa deveria ser uma possibilidade e o protótipo obtido pela equipe tinha ainda como intenção servir a esse propósito.
Se a preocupação com a população menos assistida sempre esteve presente no radar das estudantes, o cuidado com o meio ambiente também. “Mapeamos 26 processos necessários à produção do MDF, o que leva a emissões altíssimas de carbono”, avisa Sarah. “Ao diminuir processos, criamos um produto com menos riscos à saúde e que gera o menor impacto ambiental possível”, resume.
A professora Helena Cibele acrescenta um dado relevante: “O mesmo parque industrial que fabrica o MDF pode produzir o material à base de folhas secas”.
Plano de negócios viável
A equipe trabalhou engajada com três dos 17 Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável (ODS) da agenda da Organização das Nações Unidas (ONU) para 2030: Inovação e Infraestrutura; Cidades e Comunidades Sustentáveis; e Consumo e Produção Responsáveis.
“Como nosso curso era da área de Administração, elaboramos ainda um plano de negócio e um plano financeiro baseados nessas três ODSs”, afirma Sarah, lembrando que nem sempre uma proposta sustentável é financeiramente viável. Mas o MDFolhas é.
“Uma placa padrão de MDF, de 1,80m x 2,70m, custa entre R$ 240 e R$ 280. A nossa placa, com a mesma medida, vai custar R$ 79,97”, diz a estudante, em conta precisa.
Hoje, enquanto se dedicam à nova vida de universitárias, Sarah, Nataly e Yasmin continuam acalentando o desejo de retomar o trabalho com o MDFolhas. “O protótipo está finalizado e tem potencial para uma continuação”, promete Sarah.
